Can you imagine the possibilities of 3D printed clothes design? Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen could! She started her own fashion label for women, using 3D printers to construct her design. This combination of handmade and computer design opens up a new world of creative fashion design, with endless possibilities. Van Herpen uses technology as a guideline through her work and prefers interdisciplinary research and collaborations with other artist or scientists. Recently, she designed and developed a 3D printed dress with TU Delft scientist and assistant Professor Zjenja Doubrovski at the Faculty of Industrial Design & Engineering. The collaboration between TU Delft and TodaysArt was part of the Crossing Parallels programme. Projects like these bring together artists and scientists to collaborate on innovative projects, stimulate future technologies, and reflect upon scientific inventions and their challenges for society at large. For Doubrovski this project was a welcome change.“I would like to collaborate more with artists because that forces us to look at our technology in a different light,” Faculty: Industrial Design
